ur church was established in 2001 with the arrival of the first Coptic family in Pensacola. Today, our church is home to more than 20 families from Pensacola, Mobile (Al), and Destin. To support the growing congregation, the church was moved in 2009 from a modest house that was used to host the services to a formal, two story church building in downtown Pensacola. The masses are held bi-weekly and are served by either Fr. Youstos (from New Orleans, LA) or by H.G. Bishop Metias (from Dallas, TX). The church is one of 27 churches that together constitute the Diocese of the Southern United States. The Diocese is overseen by H.G. Bishop Youssef.

Background: The Coptic church was established in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by St. Mark the Evangelist in the city of Alexandria around 43 A.D. St. Athanasius (296-373 A.D.), the twentieth Pope of the Coptic church, effectively defended the doctrine of the Christ's divinity at the council of Nicea in 325 A.D. His affirmation of the doctrine earned him the title "Father of Orthodoxy" and "St. Athanasius the Apostolic".
Today, the term "Copts" is equivalent to "Christians of Egypt". The Coptic Orthodox Church believes that the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, are equal to each other in one unity; and that Jesus Christ is the only savior of the world. His Holiness Pope Shenouda III is the 116th successor of St. Mark the Evangelist. His Holiness' era is marked by a remarkable growth in the number of Coptic churches abroad. The first Coptic Orthodox Diocese to be established in the US is the Diocese of the Southern United States in 1993.
